Upstream Environmental was contracted to provide an ongoing oil & gas filtration system for a fire training school. Oil & grease are used to start the fire. Along with the water that was used to extinguish the fire, a significant amount of the oil & grease remains as unspent fuel.
The contaminated water is collected and fed by pump or gravity through the filter unit.
Upstream Environmental installed one of its patent pending commercial scale filtration units which utilizes recycled tire material to filter hydrocarbons from the water. The filter material holds onto the hydrocarbons but allows the water to flow through.
The project has proven to be highly successful. Upstream Environmental’s client completed independent laboratory testing on the filtered water, showing a reduction in oil & grease from 33,000 parts per million to below 100 parts per million. These results fall well below the region’s sewer requirements, eliminating environmental damage while saving the client money.
